Hey oh! We'll I am here to drop you all a little update on the life of Mitch. Well, this year, I am entering my first season as assistant coach of the Runnin' Vikes. I have been around basketball and coaching my whole life so I am now getting my first taste of what it's all about. It's been a good experience so far. Before games I get super excited and a little nervous, those same jitters that I had back when I played at Big Bend. Sitting on the bench is kinda of fun, you see the game through a totally new perspective. You are totally focused in on what is going on every little aspect of the game; no longer can I sit back with a bag of popcorn check the game out a bit and hope to get free stuff thrown to me by Thor. After games I am even a little emotionally drained. It's been a good experience and I enjoy working with guys and seeing them improve.
Well, I found my bio that is in our press-book and so I thought I'd put it in here. It makes me sound like kinda a deal, don't be fooled.
Mitch begins his first season as a member of the Runnin' Vikes Basketball staff. Mitch is no stranger to Big Bend basketball, for close to twenty years Mitch has spent numerous hours with his father and BBCC basketball. Mitch is an avid wakeboarder and can be seen regularly on the lake from spring to fall. He has a genuine love for teaching and is currently an adjunct professor at Big Bend Community College. Mitch graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1999. Mitch speaks fluent Spanish, and after graduating from high school, served a two year church mission in Argentina.
Mitch played on the BBCC 2001-02 basketball team that went 28-4, winning the Eastern Region Championship and finishing 2nd in the NWAACC Championship Tournament. After attending BBCC, Mitch transferred to Brigham Young University and eventually received his BS degree in Spanish and Communications from BYU-Hawaii. In 2007 Mitch received his MS degree in Communications from Marist University. Mitch is a very positive person who possesses as passion for teaching and has great insight into the game of basketball. We are exited to have him as a member of our coaching staff.
